Documentation with the U.S. Coast Guard provides many benefits to the yacht owner. Documentation places your yacht on a national list and provides history to the ownership of the vessel. In addition, documentation allows the U.S. Coast Guard to intervene or assist in international waters in case of an emergency.

Documentation may take up to three months to be completed and you should keep all of your closing paperwork with you on the vessel at all times. The original Certificate of Documentation must be kept onboard after issuance. In addition, you may have other state registration requirements.
